All Pro linebacker Patrick Willis calls them like he sees them. NFL.Fanhouse.com reports that the San Francisco 49′ers stand-out went off via Twitter after hearing the Niners signed journeyman quarterback David Carr:
“In one tweet posted on his verified account, Willis wrote (sic): ‘I’m saying if we going to go get another qb. spend money on a difference maker. Like (Michael) vick. my opinion. And well u got urs’
Willis also posted, ‘We have 3 qb’s that are better then him. That’s a waste of his time.’”
While there is no doubt Willis should have exercised some professional impulse control, the gist of what he Tweeted is true, Michael Vick as a viable option at quarterback aside. It’s too bad he apologized for it:
“‘Later, Willis backed off his strident tone, posting, ‘Ppl are really fired up right now about what I said earlier. I apologize if I hurt some feelings and if carr becomes my teammate.’ He also added, ‘I will embrace him and we will win together. And with that being said I just want to win.’”
Because of David Carr’s “starting experience”, you can bank on a quarterback controversy in San Fran. But not the good kind where two worthy athletes go head to head for the starting slot. David Carr vs. Alex Smith is definitely a tallest midget contest.
SportsChat would have loved it if someone in the NFL had finally called David Carr out for the NFL joker he has always been. After five years of watching the fans and press in Houston pretend Carr was not a bust, it would have been refreshing. Of course, why would the press in Houston have been concerned with Carr’s actual play when his hair was pretty much an honorary beat at the Houston Chronicle:

Those are only five of the stories from Chron.com’s archives about David Carr’s hair. There are plenty more.
David Carr held on to the ball too long, regularly threw his offensive line under the bus and overall played losing football for five years in Houston. But it was always “wait until next year.” The Texans even threw a zillion dollar extension at Carr after they went 2-14 with him under center.
SportsChat wonders why. Perhaps because he is a clean cut, church-going white boy with great hair.
But now that he has a buzz cut, what will the 49′ers fall back on?

Bryan Harvey says:
maybe Carr's like Samson in the Bible and the buzz cut will bring him a newfound sense of strength and might
Mason Lerner says:
Don't worry. Link number one of the Houston Chronicle's David Carr hair coverage examines that very idea.
