When top athletes compete against each other, you can almost always expect entertaining trash-talk. Taunting is nothing new under the sun. In fact, competitive taunts can be traced back to the first olympic games in Greece, thousands of years ago.

Taunting always gets the attentions of the fans — everyone wants to see how the opponent responds. Are they going to play more emotionally? Will they let it get in their head? Or, are they going to make the person who taunted them look silly, as revenge? Whether you’re for or against athletes taunting, you have to admit it that it makes the dynamics of a competition more entertaining to watch.
